Just learned I have Stage 3 CKD

I am so grateful to have found this site because it is loaded with information and I look forward to learning from all of you. I have spent the past two days reading about this disease. My GFR is 35 and my Creatinine is 1.52. I am also pre-diabetic with Hgb Alc 6.3 glucose 104. LOVE food (especially unhealthy ones) so this feels like a real hurdle because of having the CDK & pre-diabetes. I am 5-10 pounds from my goal weight, and that is because I lost 29 pounds over the course of several months by using portion control. Fortunately I know how to cook low sodium because my husband is a heart transplant patient and I had to cook that way for him for over a year prior to transplant. He said he will join me in eating better. My first appointment with a nephrologist is August 10, so I'm sure I will learn more at that time. I am almost 68 years old...guess it is about time to start taking better care of myself!

My job has a wellness program but you have to do lab work before you can join. When my labs returned our campus nurse suggested that I speak with my PCP about my results. After doing so I was referred to a specialist. Then I noticed I couldn’t keep anything down and started to gain weight. Found out the weight gain was fluid and my doctor made the decision to go ahead and put me on dialysis. visit here https://sites.google.com/site/bestes...servicereview/

Businesses online need to improve their websites if they are looking to get any benefit from it. It’s that simple. It’s not 2005 where having a website just for the sake of it will give you the edge. The competition online if fierce and only a Custom Website Design will cut it.

    Hi All!!

As I was looking for info to post today I came across this I say Yup we can!!! However to be honest, we can, and it's not an easy road we travel. Lots of sacrafices, worries, and dr apts...I find myself knowing what "I should be doing" and these days my mind and body are not cooperating with each other and I'm in heavy duty lazy mode.

Yes, being tired is a symptom of ckd along with many others...the frustrating aspect is that when people look at me, well You Look Just Fine and 'they' just don't get the 'it' of ckd. With this being said, I'm wishing you all a 'successful' Saturday and hope hope you'll have something nice to do that will lift your spirits

Hi Rippel, not too sure in what area you are looking for as RDA has a lot of different types of info, plus depending on your body weight and how tall you are would another factor. This is a full page websearch which explains a good deal with foods and ckd diet...I hope you will find here what you are looking for. One of the best things you can do for yourself now is to drink 1/2 your body weight in water, I use a brita gallon jug with filter. Ask your dr for a referal to a nephrologist and a dietitian. Get hard copy of all your most recent blood work and bring this with you to the dietitian...this is how they help you to understand what you can eat.
    Best of Luck, ml

    Hi All!!

Well I got my computer mouse back...boy oh boy did I miss having my computer~still have more to do in my house, but some is done...progress not perfection!

Today I'm writing about a drink that will help your kidney clean out toxins...it's called Barley Water. There is a process to make it and takes a bit of time, sounds good. In addition to the "Pearl Barley" fresh ginger and cinnoman sticks. On this particular utube (11:00 minutes) this woman has a lot of videos. There is an arrow after the video is done that will take you through all the different info below the video. I've done my best to write out the recipe...she did say she posted below but I couldn't find it...oh well

    https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...9284&FORM=VIRE

Barley Water with ginger and cinnoman

    Gallon of distilled water
    Pearl Barley
Thumb size of fresh ginger, organic if possible
    2 cinnoman sticks...about 4"

Rinse the barley really well until water runs clear
1 cup barely, 5 cups of water, thumb size of ginger sliced thin and 2 cinnoman sticks crumbled
put into pot, bring to boil when boiling turn down to a simmer for 25 minutes and then turn off
add 1/2 lime and 2 table spoons of organic honey

This recipe will make two servings, keep in ref. Drink first thing in am...no food. both cinnoman and ginger are also very good for you, I've put some links below. Strain really well...cheese cloth.

Before trying these herbal drinks, etc, check with your dr to be sure it's ok for your specific ckd stage.

Hi I'm Vikki. I have diabetes for 40 yrs now. I have adjusted to a low carb diet low sodium diet. But this low potassium low phosphorus protien diet really sucks. I'm italian and love Tomatoe sauce. My GFR is 36.8 creatinine is 1.2. I knew I had CKD for about 4 yrs now.I was told not to worry to much about the 3 Ps when chosing food. I started with a GFR of 59. I have a very big cyst in my right kidney. My last GFR was 48 now dropped to 36.8. I am wondering if the cyst could cause a drop in GFR? All my labs R normal except my micro albumin its off the wall at 800. What does micro albumin mean? Thanks Vikki

    Hi All!!

Well today is the down and dirty detox of my computer! I'm giving my mouse away to my son so no more computer for me for a while. Why? Well, for one thing all around me is an explosion of what I've not done over the month of January to the beginning of February from being sick. I just can't live like this, just plain wrong and disrespectful of those I loved who have wanted to live and died.

My plan, for the rest of February and March too maybe is to have my son keep my mouse Monday-Friday. I'll still keep up with posting, probably Monday, Wed, Friday. I just am not strong enough to avoid the trap of so much information, playing games and watching utube and netflix...starting today I'm making up a plan for cleaning each room in my house from ceiling to floor...papers, mail, and other clutter need to be addressed too. I've wanted to do sewing, knitting, coloring, go to senior center, well I just need to create a life outside my house.

It's going to be hard for me, most things that I don't want to do are hard, In the long run the ""it's""" once completed will bring joy back into my life.I am So Looking Forward to the following benefits for my mental and physical wellbeing

    Hi All!!

I'm having a bit of a better day today hope it will continue! Freezing here today in the Great state of CT...supposed to have snow rain showers tomorrow...oh well it's winter so ya got to expect that four lettered word.

One of the things with ckd is to make sure we produce enough red blood cells...it's hard to do because of the limited protein intake in some of our diets. Thus, anemia can be a problem..yup, I got that too. A very kind lady who is Working Hard to bring her gfr number up to avoid dialysis has sent me a Wonderful post about increasing iron in our ckd diet.

DMoffatt15 Morning The handout she gave me with how to maximize iron absorption with high iron and high vitamin c food combos suggests: Dried mango or apricot combined with pepitas (pumpkin seeds) Sweet potato and blackstrap molasses Cream of Wheat cereal and strawberries Iron and Vitamin C meal combos Stir fry beef plus red peppers and sesame seeds Greek salad (chick peas, olives, red peppers, raw spinach) Broccoli Quiche (broccoli and egg yolk) Stir fry with snow peas, red peppers and thin sliced beef Sweet potato plus lentils or black beans Spinach salad with pepitas, mandarin oranges, sesame dressing, strawberries For plant based diet swap the beef in stir fry for tempeh or tofu. I'll tell you I'm coming to her house for dinner...yummmmooooo. Since many of her food items are plant based, I'm re-posting the Plant Based Diet for Beginners. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition...guide-scored#8

Along the lines of my grummy post yesterday, I found this utube TED talk about how Not To Screw Up Your Life gave me some laughs and lots to think about too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp7E973zozc

Hoping you'll have a Great Sunday!

In my romping around I found this site that has lots of short videos of anemia, and how different parts of the body if they are out of whack can lead to depression.

    Hi All!!

Well grumpy bumpy ride continues and I'm back again searching for Tiger to get some mojo spring into my steps. So I'm posting a blah blah bunch of sites with different messages to give to my brain. I first couldn't sleep last night, so my day started late...around 11:30 am. Still in pj's and really need to do something about that situation or I'll be back in bed in no time...another cold blustery day today, Thankfully the sun is out, no clouds, no rain, no snow I looked out to see a mess in my back yard due to the wind, so I hope a day of 40 degrees or above will come along soon to clean up the mess.

So much to do, well I went searching on the web to find Something Anything to help me do what I know is the right thing to do for all the ""it's""" I have around my house. Yes, getting sidetracked is very easy for me...the computer is a refuge for sending me off to la la land to forget about life for awhile...dang computer games . Well I found some interesting stuff, at least for me and my lazy bones...hope you'll get some inspiration too if your in the Eeyore zone~~

    Hi All!!

Sorry not a Chirpy Hi...I'm in a low. Over the past 3 weeks I've been sick 11 times to the point where I now have pain in my ribs and back, no appetite, no energy and lots of fear about putting Anything in my mouth! Yesterday was double dr day, primary and nephrologist...the outcome, my thyroid is out of whack and my synthroid is being increased...I'm hoping I will feel less lethargic. As for getting sick, I went for fluids at the hospital a week ago...probably should go again...dr said it takes 24hrs to re-hydrate your body...well dang if I can't keep fluids down, how t he heck is 24hrs going to help me??? The end result I'm not happy with, but ya don't always get what you want I now have to go back on Zantac, 2 times a day, taking the pill one hour before I eat.

Dang!! Gett'n Ole Aint for the Faint of Heart or Sissies My primary care dr now has a pa working with her...She made a comment about all my dx's, I've got about 25 and she just looked at me saying I got a lot going on...tell me something I don't know already Anywho, on the other side of the coin I could be doing a whole whole lost worse than I am so I just have to keep that in mind...there are so many who struggle in this world. I just want to be Tigger Again, bouncing around...not poor Ole Eeyore with his droopy trunk!

The Winds Are Blowing Hard...blowing winter away No...we got rain showers today And Snow..that nasty four lettered word!
