  • protein?

I am new here, I was wondering if I could take whey protein, I don't eat a lot of meat. But I know compromised kidneys cannot process protein as well as well as normal kidneys. I am 3b kidney disease.

Hi Sharon, I too am at 3b, or at least hope I've maintained that level of 32gfr. I see a dietitian and she has given me a specific amount of protein intake daily amount, as well as other areas of health needs for my kidney. I asked my nephrologist for a referral for a 'renal' dietitian, brought all my blood work test results and this is where she worked the numbers for my kidney. Best to you!

Gosh man this is serios! protein supplements should not replace a healthy, balanced diet. Eating a variety of whole foods such as legumes, nuts, seeds, and fresh fruits and vegetables can provide your body with the necessary nutrients it needs to stay healthy

I'm aware this answer comes a bit late, but it's important to talk with your doctor about any supplements you are considering taking. Naturally food supplements, such as whey protein, can be beneficial for people with compromised kidneys, but it is important to make sure you are taking the right amount and form of protein for your specific condition. Your doctor can help you determine what is right for you and offer advice on how to get the most benefit from your protein supplement.
