  • Clonindine

I have been on this pill the last several years, until last week, 0.3 MG 3 times a day which is the maximum. He tapered me off so that now I just take it one time a day. Great news for me as this pill causes severe dry mouth and with the fluid restrictions, doesn't help at all!

Clonidine is used to help persons quit smoking. It has not been approved the the FDA, however it is suggested as a second choice for this use. Also clonidine can be recommended by some physicians to treat high blood pressure. Clonidine is typcially used for high blood pressure. However, doctors also use it for alcohol and narcotic revulsion, migrane headaches, insomnia and hot flashes.

The reason you have to be tapered off of Clonodine is that it effects brain chemistry, it is not a typical High blood pressure drug as it has no effect on the heart or blood vessels, it s also a great sleeping pill.

Possible because clonidine has a calming effect. According to mentalhealthdaily.com - One of the more dangerous withdrawal symptoms is that of major increases in blood pressure. A person can actually go into a “hypertensive crisis” if they quit this drug cold turkey; this could lead to a stroke. Although most people will withdraw from this drug without problems, it is important to be as safe as possible. Some people use this drug instead of Xanax.

That is quite possible, your DR should have tapered you off of this drug. I would ask to be put back on it, because like taking statins it is a drug that does more good than harm. Just my opinion though.

Have you noticed being more anxious or nervous? This drug, in my opinion, is like taking statins, it helps more than hurts.
