    Hi

Has anybody tried cellfood and nitric oxide? My dad is a renal failure diabetic patient who is under hemo for more than 3 years. Recently he has started the symptons of "diabetic foot" (one of the toes is blackened and he has constant pain in one of her foot). Someone recommended the above OTC nutrients to me. I am usually skeptic for all those claims but my mom really wants to have my dad try those nutrients. Anyone know those two items? Many thanks.

Was this supplement discussed with Neph? Kidneys are the in charge of clearing out all of excess amount of nutrients and fluid we eat and/or drink. When kidneys are failing or have fail, this nutrients can harm our bodies.
The other problem would be if this or any other nutrient interacts with any other med a patient is taking.
    That alone can be dangerous.

Please discuss any and all OTC with Neph before starting them
I received the GIFT OF LIFE on Nov 9, 2010 thanks to my wonderful donor Laura and her family!

      Hi Sallypooh,

I do not know anything about cellfood or nitric oxide, but I do know of a supplement that your mom and dad might be interested in. Juven is an over the counter product that is safe for diabetic/dialysis patients that have diabetic foot problems. You can buy it at at: Walgreens, Rite Aid, HEB, Giant, Stop&Shop and Publix. The website: www.abbottnutrition.com. If you look up Juven on this website, there is video of a man that used it who had an infected diabetic foot wound for MONTHS. He started this supplement and after a couple of months, started seeing a real turn-around.

Good luck, I hope that whatever your dad does will help him from losing his foot. Also, if/when his MD says its okay for him to walk, that would be one of the best things he can do. Walking creates new blood vessels to the feet increasing circulation.

Who is "somebody", and why would you trust their advice? And, at the same time, why trust the advice of some stranger online who has a measly 4 posts to their name? Seriously, it baffles me as to why people who have a SERIOUS illness keep taking 'advice' from non-professionals and not from the doctors who specialize in this stuff.

FWIW, I have no knowledge about the effectiveness or safety of any of the supplements mentioned here. They might be useful and safe, or they might be deadly to your father. Is that a chance you're willing to take?

One thing I CAN tell you is this: only a fool accepts advice blindly from strangers.

            Hi dac0214,

Thanks for your concern. I did some research about Juven and it seems to be somewhat effective to relieve the diabetic foot. For cellfood and L-arginine, I was actually skeptical from the very beginning when my mom told me about those and further I didn't find enough information to back up those statement. I was seeking more information from here to peruade my mom not to have my dad try them .

I was given valuable advice from this forum and I do trust here. But being more cautious is always right and i will keep it on my mind.

A diabetic foot is very dangerous disease so it is far better to be in the regular touch of physicians. If you are asking for such supplements, It is better to ask first from the doctor who is treating diabetes because your regular doctor is aware of all type of your bodily complications and he/she may guide you better in this.

While I can see your point of view, sadly....some of us needs others to talk to and just sound things out. As for strangers, isn't a doctor a stranger you go to for diagnosis, opinion and care? At least until you get to know them, if they are willing to take the time to listen to your concerns and cares. While many doctors are trained for this line of work, some won't even tell you why they decided to do what they are doing. Been there and still going through it.

It never hurts to see what ideas other people in similar situations are going through. Cellfood is an electrolyte balancer...so do your research on it as it's high in sodium and trace minerals such as electolytes. Ask the nephrologist and get him/her to tell you why....not just no. Just my opinion. Nitric Oxide is a vasodilator....has many uses but is also excreted primarily by the kidneys.

                Best wishes

one thing you should consider is this when your toe is black, then that means there is no blood circulation to that area. You would do well to make an appointment with a vascular surgeon to see if the is anything you can do about it because the next problem is that you have to get it amputated. if you don't, then you could get blood poisoning/septicemia

You have highlighted a good thing basically it can help those who are doing through diseases like that and can help others in getting rid of some stuff that is not right.
According to what i feel going for herbs is fine rather than anything else.

Toe is turning black due to loss of circulation. You may not need to dilate every blood vessel in the body as will occur when you take medicine orally. To dilate only the blood vessels on the toes and near the toes, you can get a prescription for "Nitro-bid" which is a tube of nitroglycerin paste that is normally applied to the chest area near the heart. You will need to wear gloves when applying the nitro paste to the toes and nearby foot area as nitro will dilate the blood vessels of anyone it touches. Apply the amount measured out to the toes and foot 2 times per day, put socks on and keep foot warm- not hot- warm. What this will do is to maintain circulation in the toes by enlarging the blood vessels temporarily. This will buy you some time while you wait for his body to produce collateral arteries. In essence, your body will "wire around" this blockage in time, but if the toes are dead (black dry gangrene) they are most likely partially gone already. If the toes continue to move and have at least periodic circulation, the body will produce the collateral blood vessels and by-pass the clog.
