Just wondering if anybody with ckd is taking melatonin for sleep ? I will see my doc in a few weeks and I plan on asking him if this okay for me to take. I have bad sleeping problems. I have been on some powerful meds for it, but now I am sleeping on my own. I am doing good except a few nights a week I lay awake wishing I could sleep.

It works for me,but takes like an hour to induce you,I shut lights,tv ...and then
Melatonin is really a drug that resets your circadian rhythm. It is actually not a sleep aid. If you get sleepy in the day and don't sleep at night then it is suppose to reset your sleep rhythm. My General doctor says it is okay for CKD but it didn't really work for me. She also said if it is just once in a while it was okay to take a benadryl to help you sleep. I also have bad sleeping problems. I won't take anything if I can help it. I don't want anything to make the kidney disease worse. I get about 4-4 and a half hours a night. I hope you get a good nights sleep.
Melatonin is actually a hormone. It has many beneficial health effects. I take it because it causes you to dream more vividly. I practice what is known as lucid dreaming. That means when I am dreaming I know that I am dreaming and can control the outcome or direction of the dream. It has taken years of practice to develop my lucid dreaming skills. I never have nightmares, because when I start having a bad dream I change the direction of the dream to a pleasant outcome. Melatonin increases my ability to dream lucidly.

I have done lucid dreaming for years. Since I was a child actually. I really didn't know it was a thing. When I was a child I used to change the channel in my dream to watch cartoons when a scary dream started. LOL As an adult I have always directed my dreams. Seems natural to me.
