You know you're a renal patient (or living with one) when. .

Some humor for us-you know you're a renal patient or living with one when:

-You have more points on the reward program at the local pharmacy than anyone has ever had, enough to purchase and stock your bathroom for months with hair, makeup and cleaning products

-You've learned to crawl in and squash your trashcan contents every three days to make room for all of the fun dialysis related waste products

-Your fridge is covered, not with family pictures, but with flyers showing high and low potassium, sodium and phosphorus foods

-You need one to three calendars, planners, organizers and business card holders to keep up with the doctor, labwork and transplant test appointments

-You talk to the dialysis nurse and nephrologist and their staff more than you do your ownfamily members

-You have enough paperwork, flyers and forms from docs, hospitals, lab people, nutritionists and other staff to have killed acres of trees

    Anymore out there?

Your "good old days" are now "before CKD"

Your six-pack after work consists of Nephro in homemade vanilla or mixed berry

I'm new to kidney disease & dialysis & I already am becoming nostalgic about "...back when my kidneys worked"

This place has been a godsend! I am so grateful to have someplace to learn about this disease and its treatments and to find others willing to share their experiences and not feel so alone and overwhelmed! Hopefully, I will be able to give back what has been given to me thru this website.

You know you're a renal patient when...

~~you can make bubbles and it has nothing to do with happiness, childish glee, magic or soap!

~~an earthquake occurs and your first thought is that your kidneys are twitching (check out my profile page on that one!)

~~you're told to eat white bread instead of whole wheat!

~~you complain about peeing too much through the night and your nephrologist claps and says, "Peeing is good no matter when you go!"

~~you're cold on a hot day

~~itch and you haven't been around insects, poison ivy, or anything else

~~you get excited about grilled fish

~~scan a kidney forum for someone with a lower kidney function than you, and they're still not on dialysis

~~delight in "legal" fruit for dessert
Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease, 17% renal function, 11 years

Always have a special spot reserved in your refrigerator for your 24 hour collection container.

Have no idea where your voter's registration card is but you know exactly where your styrofoam ice chest is.

Can recite your lab numbers with ease but have difficulties remembering your social security number or your driver's license number!

You become absolutely GIDDY when you're told you can have Cheese once in a while!..

You wonder what it is you worried about prior to your Renal Failure.

When you get so excited when the nurse tells you to eat a baked potato once a week. And you don't have to leech them....

When you move into a bedroom for yourself because of making it sanitary and you get two closets (a womans dream) and one of them is filled from top to bottom with dialysis boxes and two rows of them in the main bedroom too......how many trees do we kill for all these darn boxes.....lol

When your attic is filled with dialysis boxes that you have used for storage of household junk.... I have them all over the house.....

I really enjoyed reading all the messages sent in this thread!!

    Have an awesome weekend!!

You get excited about eating fruits and veggies you thought you'd never be allowed
on dialysis ( my personal faves: nectarines, bananas, and organges,)
