Hi everyone I'm new to the feeling of being lost about kidney disease. I am 68 years old and pretty upset by just finding out.
I just found out I was at stage 3, Gfr was 43 a month ago and seems to bounce back and forth.
I have checked back for five years on all blood work. Seems that the doctors all knew I had chronic kidney disease. But not one doctor suggested I see a specialist.
I have had high blood pressure for years, of which was not controlled the way it should have been by some doctors. Then five years ago my heart Doctor finally got my blood pressure controlled. Now my new heart doctor says its to controlled.
I do believe it's why my kidneys are in the shape their in. Meaning the doctors not controlling the blood pressure correctly years back.
Beside in 2008 I had to have ACL surgery and the pain medications hadn't helped either.
Right now I'm trying to cut the sodium, potassium and phosphorus from my diet, I drink plenty of water. I don't drink coffee, haven't for years.
I'm just worried that it will get worse. Frankly I'm scared about the whole thing.

You don't really need to cut phosphorous or potassium unless your bloodwork says you need to at this point.

Hi Pcampbell47, welcome to myDaVita! I'm very sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. i understand that you're going through an overwhelming time, however, you're in a good place to learn as much as possible about kidney disease. Have you considered attending a no-cost Kidney Smart class? It's another great opportunity to learn more about the disease, treatment options, a kidney-friendly diet and more. It's also a great time to ask expert educators your questions. You can find one near you here: http://bit.ly/2axNzHn.

I am 62 and scared and feeling so overwhelmed. I was told my kidney function was not good at stage 3 and to go to the Internet and find a ckd diet. I was diagnosed with diabetes 7 years ago and pretty much have it controlled. Last A1C 6.0. In December 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. 8 chemo treatments for 16 weeks, 1 lumpectomy and within 2 weeks was under the knife again for a bi lateral mastectomy, followed by 33 radiation treatments. I have severe anxiety and panic attacks, which attacks my coping skills. I gave this history to say this, I am so totally overwhelmed by trying to eat a diet that is suitable for these problems. My blood pressure is controlled and after a 2 night stay in the hospital I now know my heart is free of blockages, which I arrived at the hospital with chest pains and difficulty breathing. The cardiac work up relieved my panic of heart attack but did not address the difficulty breathing. I noticed my breathing trouble that came slowly. I have a high BMI and I attributed the breathing trouble with that and the fact I was tapered off klonapin being off for almost a month. I also have lost about 11-12 # in the last 4-6 weeks most definitely from cutting way back on food portions and choices. I have a very stressful job, 911 dispatcher for 17 years, and need to keep working as long as possible for financial reasons. I feel I am fighting a losing battle. It is very hard to find a diet plan that covers all the illnesses decreasing my food choices. Sorry this is so long, but am desperately seeking some advice and knowing I am not alone in this season in my life journey, but I really don't know where to go from here. Just need some reassurance that I can handle this if I set my mind that I can do this. Thanks
