Nothing is totally off limits according to my centers dietician, it is portion size that needs to be controlled.

Oatmeal is high in phosphorus about 130 per 2/3 cup compared to about 40 for cream of wheat per 2/3 cup. It is a avoid or limit food. I would not have it daily. But your friend can eat just about anything in moderation as long as she watches her numbers and keeps them in check.

I eat oatmeal probably once a week, and my phosphorus levels are ok.

Are you taking a phosphorus binder currently, such as calcium carbonate?
